Noël St. John Harnden Noël St. John Harnden (born July 12, 1967, Dhekelia, Cyprus) is a British figurative artist known for his mixed-media works that explore the human form through abstract and expressive techniques. He is based in Washington, D.C., and Virginia. Biography Early Life and Education Harnden earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Fashion Design and Illustration from Kingston School of Fashion, Kingston University, in 1989. Career After completing his education, Harnden moved to New York City, where he worked in the fashion industry as a designer and illustrator. His roles included positions at Fashion Dossier and Whitemarsh Industries, as well as freelance work in print design and fashion illustration. In the early 1990s, Harnden transitioned into music, serving as a singer-songwriter for the band The Twelve. The group released several tracks, including "Closer" and "Blow Your Top," which are available on platforms like YouTube and EBay, respectively. Harnden later shifted his focus to visual arts, developing a studio practice centered on figurative painting and drawing. His work often features mixed-media compositions on canvas, wood panels, and paper, characterized by layered treatments of shape, line, and color, integrating the human form in abstract ways. From 2017 to 2019, Harnden was a studio artist at the NARS Foundation in Brooklyn, participating in exhibitions and open studio events. In 2018, he contributed to the "100 x 100" exhibition associated with the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics cultural program in Korea. In 2019, Harnden relocated to Northern Virginia and became a member of 52 O Street Studios in Washington, D.C. Since 2020, he has been affiliated with 11:Eleven Gallery in Washington, D.C., where his work has been featured in various exhibitions.
