NightGun is a home-made animated series by Kalen Aris Whitfield that premiered on Newgrounds in 2006 under the name Devil-Slayer. There are 4 canonical animated episodes of Devil-Slayer, and one non-canon short called "Magic Crack Rocks". In 2007, the series developer began releasing further installments of the story under the name NightGun, starting over fresh from Episode 1, but still a sequel to Devil-Slayer.

Story
Both Devil-Slayer and NightGun follow the story of a young man named Jakal "JAZZ" Icada who fights demons, witches and other pagan entities in a futuristic city called Neotropolis. They belong to a race called demi-humans, humans endowed with holy power to make fighting a bit more smooth. The series begins as the generic, garden variety anime-style story (Ex-villain seeks redemption by joining the good guys, demon-slaying anti-hero, supernatural halfbreeds), but with a more Afro-centric character roster than usual (featuring a cast of three black protagonists and a mulatto, with one Japanese villian). However, with the name change to NightGun came different approaches to the story, such as the borderline genocidal relations between demi-humans and the normal humans of Neotropolis whom take the side of the demons and pagan entities Jazz and his posse slay. Also, in a recent animation by the creator, the story is revealed to take place in Africa far into the future, and the demi-humans are revealed to be Christians whom fell victim to religious persecution and forced to return to the primitive ways of Africa's ancient times, by hunting in the jungle for food. Their transformation into angelic juggernauts occurred when they stumbled upon the Garden of Eden and feasted on its animals, unaware that they were eating the flesh of real, living demons. Nightgun has lots of action, as well as many comedy elements but grows slowly more dramatic and serious with each installment.
