Night of the Living Dead Reanimated

Night of the Living Dead: REANIMATED is a re-imagining of George A. Romero's classic horror film Night of the Living Dead featuring the work of various artists, animators, and filmmakers from around the globe. The different types of mixed media featured include puppetry, CGI, hand-drawn animation, illustration, acrylics, claymation, and even tattoos, just to name a few. This mass-collaboration approach is less about remaking Romero's film and more about viewing the classic through an experimental lens.
Production
The project was started by neo-flux manager Mike Schneider. This is not his first project to feature this style of collaboration. Schneider had worked on previous smaller endeavors in the same vein as NOTLD: Reanimated, but most were for art gallery installations. Schneider considered doing an ever-expanding story with each animator providing their own take on an ever-evolving story line, but this was considered too massive an idea to be done realistically, seeing as each artist would have to wait after one another. The idea was abandoned in favor of reanimating Night of the Living Dead, because of it's iconic visuals and public domain status granting freedom to any and all artists.
Plot
The project is an anthology of animated scenes all connected by the original audio track of Night of the Living Dead, which has been left unchanged. The effect of which is an interesting study of form and continuity vs. style.
The animation can vary greatly, and the length of a particular artist's segment can last anywhere from one frame to several seconds. One shot may be involve puppets one and the next shot may be rotoscoped.
Release and Distribution
The in-store DVD will be released by Wild Eye Releasing and will also be released digitally through Demonoid.com. The DVD is slated for a Winter 2009 release. "Featuring work from a huge number of artists, the project as a whole is being released under a CC BY-NC-ND license with individual artists retaining rights to their contributions."
Trivia
It took over a 100 artists from different backgrounds to create the film's unique look. Though quite a few artists are unknown, the project has attracted the attention of many prominent artists.
