Nick Varley, born 21/06/1989 was a prospective Member of Parliament. ,,, . He is a Conservative party candidate and is standing in the City of Durham in the next general election. He is a 3rd year law student at the University of Hull. Previously, he was a candidate at a September 27, 2007 Chester-le-Street District Council by-election, where he received 16% of the vote Varley is not expected to win the City of Durham seat at the 2010 UK General Election as a Tory victory in the constituency would require a swing of over 16%. The Conservative candidate for the City of Durham in the 2005 general election polled only 9.4% of the votes, and the seat is regarded as a Labour/Lib Dem marginal as the Conservative Party have no County Councillors in the Durham City area, making it unlikely that Varley will become the first Conservative MP for Durham City since 1922. He was also a candidate in the 2008 Durham Unitary Authority elections for Chester South ward. He was not elected to represent the 2 member ward but his running-mate Allan Bainbridge was. Nick ran in the UK General Election 2010 for the City of Durham where he came in third place behind Roberta Blackman-Woods of Labour, and Carol Woods representing the Liberal Democrats. He gained 6146 votes which represented a 50% increase in the COnservative shar of the vote from the 2005 election.
