Niall McNelis

Niall McNelis (born 1973) is an Irish businessman and Labour Party politician. He is currently a councillor for Galway City Council.
Early and private life
McNelis is a native of the Renmore area of Galway. He was educated in Calasanctius College, Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) and has also received a Higher Diploma in Public Relations. McNelis resides with his wife and two children in Knocknacarra. In addition to his political work McNelis is Managing Director of The Claddagh and Celtic Jewellery Co and lectures for The Irish Academy Of Public Relations. He also has interests in Internet companies and Smart-Tees printing co.
Political career
Following two unsuccessful attempts at Galway City Council, McNelis successfully ran again to represent the West Ward in 2009.
McNelis takes a keen interest in European affairs, serving as co-ordinator for West of Ireland Alliance for Europe during the Lisbon Campaign and is an alternate delegate for the EU Committee of the Regions.
Other Work
McNelis is involved with numerous organisations and is a member of the The Western Regional Authority committee, Galway Vocational Education Committee, Galway Healthy Cities Project and the The Joint Policing Board. In addition, he is a boardmember of the Galway Chamber of Commerce and Galway Civic trust as well as chairman of The Travellers Accommodation Committee.
McNelis is also noted for his community work and is the founder of Sports Aid, Green Nose Day and a campaigner on mental health issues as well as active with the Marketing Institute and the European Movement.
Niall is a passionate sports fan and is a Publicity Director and management committee member for Galway United FC.
