New York State Route 912C
|
New York State Route 912C (NY 912C), known as Main Street in Altamont serves as a one-block link between NY 156 and NY 146. These routes do not meet, although both highways use Main Street as an entrance to the village. NY 156 enters Altamont from the south as Main Street, meeting Helderberg Avenue and Prospect Terrace, turning right to leave via Altamont-Voorsheesville Road to the east. NY 146 enters Altamont from the west as Western Avenue, turning right on Maple Avenue, then meeting Main Street and turning left, leaving Altamont to the north. Both NY 156 and NY 146 are marked with signs "To" the other route, using this one block of Main Street, which is maintained by NYSDOT as New York State Reference Route 912C. Route description NY 912C begins at a five-way intersection with NY 156 and local roads in Altamont and runs northeast along Main Street for one block. The route crosses the railroad tracks of the Delaware and Hudson Railway before ending at NY 146, at an intersection where NY 146 enters on Maple Avenue and continues eastward along Main Street. Because of the routing of NY 146 along Main Street east of Maple Avenue, and the routing of NY 156 along Main Street west of Altamont-Voorsheesville Road, the two routes do not meet, and thus access between the routes is only possible via NY 912C. However, a short section of Main Street within the village did not become part of NY 156 and is now designated as New York State Route 912C, an unsigned reference route.<ref name=2006tdr/> Major intersections
