New Education Experiment

The New Education Experiment (NEE) () project in China is a nationwide experiment in basic education launched by Professor Zhu Yongxin in 2000. The mission of this project is to help teachers and students enjoy an integrated experience of learning and living in schools. By Now,there are over 2 million students and teachers
have taken in this project. NEE considers 6 actions for experimental primary and secondary schools,"develop a reading-focus school", "help teachers and students write essays"', "cultivate eloquence"', "listen to the voices outside campus", "construct a digital community for teachers and students", and "set up an ideal classroom".
Issue
Firstly, Both teachers and children suffer from stressful environments and high pressure to perform well in high-stakes test. This puts a heavy burden on students who do not have a happy experience of learning in schools and hinders their physical and mental development.Secondly, there is a big gap between urban and rural areas and also between excellent public schools and ordinary schools. Students and teachers in rural areas and ordinary schools have fewer education resources.
Solution
NNE is trying non-traditional learning methods to replace rote learning by an education that values students’ wellbeing and boosts their confidence, their ability to communicate, their feelings and their creative thinking. This project states if the present experience and the well-being of children in their daily school life is ignored, the school education will become an accessory to the examinations. Moreover , NNE emphasis on teachers' education.Professor Zhu Yongxin, Founder of the New Education Experiment Project, explains that teachers’ wellbeing is paramount to his program. “Teachers have to grow into it along with their students. In their daily work they should enjoy feelings of dignity and fulfillment. That is why we focus a lot on the teachers”.
