Neologistics is a discipline that studies linguistic invention (neologisms). Neologistics is becoming increasingly important because of the unprecedented amount of information that is available to human beings, and the accelerated rate at which new ideas, terms, pop-culture references, and slang is being produced, cataloged and disseminated. Not yet a respected discipline, neologists (like neologisms themselves) face the challenge of proving to skeptics, traditionalists and/or reductionists (who either fear a complication of the linguistic status quo, or seek to simplify and synthesize, rather than expound and build upon, modern meaning) that neologistics is something meaningful. <references/>
