(This article is about the 2006 Horror role-playing game, not about the Super Punk role-playing game Nemesis: A Perfect World published by Maximum CNG in 2000.) Nemesis is a supernatural horror role-playing game, created by Dennis Detwiller, Greg Stolze, and Shane Ivey, with game mechanics by Greg Stolze. The game is available electronically for free. Nemesis uses the One-Roll Engine (ORE) gaming system, a dice pool system where matched die results determine success. Publication history Greg Stolze had previously released games using what he called the "ransom method" of asking fans for money and then releasing the game as a free download. In February 2006, Detwiller and Stolze successfully used this method to ransom Nemesis, which was released as a PDF and remained available online after that. Setting Nemesis emulates the works of H. P. Lovecraft, Stephen King, Ambrose Bierce, Brian Lumley, and William Peter Blatty, as well as settings like Delta Green.<ref name="designers00s"/> System NEMESIS uses the ORE system, first introduced in , in which the dice pool rolling system where matching results on dice are formed into sets to help determine the outcome of an action in how successfully and swiftly the action is performed. The name One-Roll comes from the nature that one roll of the dice determines the initiative, success, location and damage of an action. As an update to the ORE system, Nemesis introduces the Madness Meter (derived from Unknown Armies) to simulate insanity and mental trauma.<ref name="designers00s"/> It also replaces Hard Dice with a new mechanic called Expert Dice, and renames Wiggle Dice to Trump Dice in order to promote a more mature tone.
