Necromium is a fantasy MUD that was established in 1997 as a derivative of CircleMUD. It was founded when its current owners, at the time players of another MUD called Medievia, got fed up with the direction it was going, and decided to make their own game.
Gameplay
In Necromium, players start of at level 1 of one of the four base classes: Cleric, Warrior, Mage, or Thief. As they play the game and gain experience (by killing monsters), they gain levels, and eventually reach level 33. Upon level 33, they may multiclass into a specialized version of one of the base classes. The specialization is determined by their original class. For example, a cleric who chooses to multiclass into a mage will become an Illusionist. In such way, they go through all four classes, and eventually become an Avatar of their original class.
The MUD has many interesting features that make it stand out from other, similar games. For instance, it is divided into multiple continents, includes an alchemy system, and an overhead map. Character development never ends with the addition of character points that allow infinite development of skills, spells, and attributes on a system of diminishing returns.
Current Status
As of about January 2007, Necromium has been reborn. With the help of a new overseer and a group of newly-appointed player assistants, quest assistants, and other "immortals," the MUD is growing in popularity. New features, zones, equipment, and mobiles are being introduced on a regular basis.
