Dragon Swords MUD

is a 100% free to play Multi User Dungeon created in 1995 by a collection of people working with Merc 2.2, a derivative of DIKU. The theme is fantasy medieval. It has undergone 10 years of extensive development, and is now a massive text based hack n slash game. It is not based on role playing, but on advancing your character through grouping and gaining experience. Players group together to create clans, battle each other on battlefields for fun, and undertake massive multiple-hour length quests for equipment and glory.

Classes

Class is the most important aspect of the MUD. On Dragon Swords MUD you choose 3 classes. Your primary, your dual, and your triple. Primary is chosen in character creation, and you gain all skills for this class. These will be your most powerful abilities, and most classes have around 30-50 prime abilities between level 1-100, and then 1 ability every 10-50 levels in the higher ranges.

At level 100, you must choose a second class. This is not optional. You get only half of your second class skills.
At level 200, this is repeated, with a third class.

The available classes are:

*Mage Your typical spell caster with the ability to enchant weaponry.

*Warrior Your typical physical warrior.

*Thief A sneaky thief, with the ability to steal and poison.

*Cleric The strongest healer in the realm.

*Knight A righteous fighter, with some clerical abilities.

*Bard A physically strong mixture of a warrior, thief, and mage. Ability to enchant armor.

*Sage A spellcaster with heavy emphasis on the creation and use of scrolls and spellbooks.

*Druid A physically strong spellcaster with emphasis on the creation and use of potions and casks.

*Priest A physically strong cleric.

*Necromancer A mage of the dark arts, with the ability to summon minions.

*Monk A holy fighter with the ability to meditate, heal and use stances.

*Ranger A strong fighter with the ability to track and use traps.

*Assassin A thief-like warrior with the ability to instantly critical hit (kill) opponents.

*Psionist A strong mental mage.

Levelling

The aim of the game is to have as strong a character as possible (whilst also making friends (and enemies!)). This is achieved through levelling, which in turn is achieved through gaining experience points.

Experience points are gained through killing creatures across the realm. As you get stronger, you can kill tougher beasts. A combination of skills and spells, equipment, and statistics determine your strength.

Levels can also be purchased by questing.
----

Questing

There is a vast array of quests across the MUD, from your basic fetch me a sword, to the complex, hours long area quests that require large groups of high level players. Quests have two purposes.

# Equipment - Which helps you become stronger.
# Quest Points - Which can be exchanged for mana, health points, special options - and levels.

World

Dragon Swords MUD consists of a user-created world, where many mortals have featured as builders. There are currently around 1000 stock (original) zones that belonged to DIKU, and around 15,000 rooms that are unique to Dragon Swords.

Staff

Dragon Swords MUD is run by a team of dedicated people called immortals. These are the staff who take care of the behind the scenes work - which includes coding, building, writing, promotion and of course, policing the mud. Immortals also run fun things like trivia, special battles, quests and challenges, as well as helping you with any problems you might incur.

The team of coders is extremely experienced, ensuring that any bugs are quickly fixed, and that new content is constantly being added.
