Narthaki.com (Narthaki (nartaki) means a female dancer.) is a dance web portal founded by Dr. Anita R. Ratnam, an Indian actor, dancer and writer. It has been described as India's first dance portal, and also its largest (2018), and a forum for performing artists and connoisseurs of the arts, the portal publishes reviews, details of programmes and contacts of performers. It started as a phonebook with 2000 addresses, when no such data base existed, not even the government had one. Later it was published monthly. It then became a global printed directory and was launched on the internet in July 2000. Anand Shankar Jayant writing in the The New Indian Express calls the publication of Narthaki, as a directory, a "miracle" and and after its metamorphosis to narthaki.com a "veritable Google for Indian dance". In 2017, Narthaki.com has been described as "a 17-year-old dance portal that has been chronicling, commenting and critiquing the many worlds of Indian dance practice, performance and presentation across the world,” by the British, Indian Arts Development Tryst: MilapFest, as it awarded Ratnam, the Vishva Kala Ratna award, in recognition of her contribution to Narthiki.com. Ratnam's Sangeet Natak Academy Award, India's premier performing arts award citation, describes narthaki.com as "the celebrated Indian dance portal". Sunil Kothari writes that narthaki.com's monthly newsletter is followed globally with great interest by dancers. In response to the Wuhan virus pandemic induced lockdown, narthaki.com created "Boxed" a series of 15 minute videos, featuring five acts involving dancers aged between 20 and 39 years.
