NanoFX Evolved is a custom game engine being developed by former Star Trek: Bridge Commander modders Nanobyte, and Lost_Jedi. It will support a wide range of scifi genre games, however it's primary focus has been to develop the engine to support the Star Trek genre. The development team behind NanoFX Evolved are working closely together with another development team, in order to complete the first game on this engine, known as Star Trek: Excalibur. The engine is being designed to be highly moddable, and support all types of scifi genres from Babylon 5 to Star Wars. The engine is currently being developed using Pixel Shader 2.0 techniques (Geforce 6000-series and upwards), but will also include elements from newer shader versions such as Pixel Shader 3.0 and 4.0. As such, the engine will be capable of most commonly used rendering techniques such as specular maps, bump maps, HDR lighting and environmental reflection maps. This is just a short list of what the engine will be capable of. For further information on this engine, visit the site at http://www.nanofx-evolved.com. Due to the nature of the project, it will be continuously updated with new information as well as pictures and even videos showing off features that have been added to the engine. Due to the limited amount of developers currently involved in the project, as well as the fact that it's being developed primarily on their sparetime, the release date of the engine as well as Star Trek: Excalibur has not yet been determined. Keep up to date by visiting either the NanoFX Evolved project homepage, or Star Trek: Excalibur.
