Mynheer

Mynheer is a Dutch title referring to someone as a Dutch male. It is the equivalent of Mr. in English.

Origin
Mynheer was originally developed in 1652. The words mijn , "my" in English, and heer , "lord", are combined to create the word Mynheer, which can most closely be equated to Milord in English when only the translation is considered. However, it is not equivalent to Milord, because while Milord was often used to refer to an actual Lord, Mynheer is used to refer to any Dutchman.

Modern Use
While Milord is uncommonly used in English society, Mynheer is commonly used to this day. It often is used as a Dutch surname, as well as being part of the name of several ships.

Spelling Changes
The word Mynheer has also evolved to be sometimes spelled as Meneer, a common feature of Evolutionary linguistics.
