Mukul Arya (c. 1980 - 6 March 2022) was an Indian diplomat and officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). At the time of his death, he was serving as India’s Representative to the State of Palestine. During his career, Arya held diplomatic assignments in Afghanistan, Russia, Indonesia, the United Nations in New York City, and at the Permanent Delegation of India to UNESCO in Paris. He was considered one of the youngest Indian ambassadors appointed to head a diplomatic mission abroad. Early Life and Education Mukul Arya was born around 1980 in India. He earned a degree in economics from Delhi University and later completed a master's in international relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2008. Diplomatic Career Arya served in various Indian diplomatic missions, including in Kabul, Moscow, Jakarta, and New York. He was posted at the Permanent Delegation of India to UNESCO in Paris, where he worked on multilateral issues in education, science, and culture. In August 2021, Arya was appointed as India’s Representative to the State of Palestine and posted at the Indian mission in Ramallah. Tributes and Legacy The Indian Ministry of External Affairs described him as a "bright and dedicated officer" in its official statement. Arya was remembered by colleagues as an outstanding officer with a calm demeanor and deep knowledge of foreign policy.
