Mr. Shabbos

Joshua Alpert, known by his stage name Mr. Shabbos, is an American Hasidic rabbi, musician, and entertainer from New York. Beginning his career in 2004 as the lead singer of the Celtic punk band White Shabbos, he was encouraged by bandmate Mike Wagner to pursue a solo career. He released his debut album, The Mr. Shabbos Show, in 2008.
Music career
White Shabbos
Alpert was a regular Shabbat guest at the home of Mike Wagner, a then-recent baal teshuvah who had played in secular bands like Antibalas and King Changó. Alpert encouraged Wagner to return to music, and together they formed a religious Celtic punk/bluegrass/ska band called White Shabbos in 2004. The band, which featured Wagner's future bandmates Mitchell Harrison and Paul Alpert, released their debut album, Shabbos Holy Shabbos, later that year. In 2015, they performed at a Chabad menorah lighting at in Yonkers.
Solo career
In 2005, Wagner suggested that Alpert begin a solo career making family-friendly Jewish country music. When Alpert dismissed the idea, thinking he was joking, Wagner booked a show for him without his knowledge. Alpert released his debut album, The Mr. Shabbos Show, in 2008.
Alpert moved to Israel in 2011, where, he began working with The Temple Institute to produce plays about the Beit HaMikdash.<ref name=A7 />
