Morey Schwartz

Morey Schwartz is an American-Israeli Modern Orthodox rabbi, mohel, author, and International Director of the Florence Melton School for Adult Jewish Learning.
Early life and education
Schwartz grew up in Schenectady, New York and received a BA in 1985 from Yeshiva University., In 1990 he received an MS from the Bernard Revel Graduate School and was ordained as a rabbi by the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University.  He received his doctorate in Education from the William Davidson School of Jewish Education in 2017 at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.  His dissertation was titled "Towards a Model of Analysis for Assessing the Influence of Adult Jewish Learning on the Social Capital of a Jewish Community."
Career
Schwartz served as rabbi at ” (BIAV) in Overland Park, Kansas from 1991 to 2000 and “is responsible for a strong, thriving, modern Orthodox presence in Kansas City
During his time there, he designed and engineered the Overland Park eruv, co-founded the kollel, served as the president for the Rabbinical Association of Kansas City, was the rabbinic coordinator of the Vaad HaKashruth, served on the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City's board, and was the only local mohel.  In 1997 he was awarded with the Reba Strauss Young Leadership Award from the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City. Schwartz developed curriculum and faculty training for the Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem before being appointed the International Director in 2018 In his position, he has dedicated himself to promoting Jewish pluralism through the Melton School. “We believe that our Jewish heritage has no single correct embodiment.  And, we believe that lively discussion and debate, founded on principles of mutual respect, can be empowering and transformative.”

Personal Life
Schwartz is a father of 4 and grandfather of 10.  He lives in Hashmona’im, Israel.
