Monterey County Skeptics

Monterey County Skeptics is an educational organization in California dedicated to promoting science and reason. It was founded in 2007 by Susan Gerbic and Steve Wheeler.
Origins
According to Gerbic, she had attended several skeptic conferences in the past, including the Skeptic's Toolbox, which encouraged her to start a local skeptics group.
Activities
MCS meets monthly at a restaurant in Monterey. According to Gerbic, the group had about 100 members.
MCS participated in the "There's Nothing in it" 10:23 Campaign by overdosing on many homeopathic tablets. To demonstrate the lack of effects of homeopathic "medications", Gerbic took 80 pellets (15 doses) of Boiron 30C Belladonna.
In March 2015, MCS was invited to give four weekly talks about the moon hoax; James Thomas Green presented.
MCS challenges other skeptics to "get their nerd on" and celebrate Pi day either with their local skeptic group or just by joining the Pi Day Facebook event page. The goal is to entice people who normally do not attend meetups by giving away free pie.
