Its declared approach is to use locally based capabilities and experience and recruit senior people with both an industrial and consulting background. Of Molten’s 60 staff about half have MBAs and Molten recruits through partnerships with LBS and INSEAD.

Notably, one of Molten founders was a finalist for the Female Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2007 and short listed for the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2006.

History

During the period 2001-2003, the systems integrators saw an opportunity to move into higher margin business consulting through the acquisition of the consulting arms of major accountancy firms, for example Atos Origin bought KPMG, Capgemini bought Ernst & Young and IBM bought PwC consultancy business. At the same time, large numbers of consultants left the profession, leading to an enlarged gap in the ‘middle’ consulting market.

In October 2003 Molten was founded to target the gap in the market for a consulting organisation that delivered a focused set of service offerings, in specific industries. This consulting company would therefore focus on implementing new strategies and delivering large scale change.

The Moscow office opened in 2005. As one of Molten's co-founders is a Russian national it is a country and culture that Molten understands well. It now has 15 employees the majority being locals, repats and two expats.

In 2007, at the opening of the Hong Kong office , the Director-General at Invest Hong Kong presented a souvenir plague to the Managing Directors of Molten to illustrate the growth potential for the management consultancy sector in this region.
