MMA Tycoon

MMA Tycoon is a free to play, massive multiplayer Mixed Martial Arts Management Simulator web browser game. Opened in early 2009 it now has over 10,000 members. All fighters and the majority of companies within the game are managed by real life users. The goal of the game, if simplified, is to be a manager of MMA Fighters you create and take them to the top of the local and global rankings.
Gameplay
In the game you take the role of a fighter manager, and the main aspect is to create new fighters (up to 4 in free play, 10 with VIP, with an option of 5 additional fighters for another fee), training them in gyms from around the world, signing with the best fight organizations and working your way to the top of the Pound for Pound (P4P) rankings. This aspect of the game is free to play. You play by clicking on different links that allow you to see your fighter stats, finances, training, fight offers, etc. The goal is to train up your fighter on different skills so that you can win fights. If you become a VIP you can also create your very own Gym, Fight Organization, Nutrition Company or a Clothing Company.
You can create up to 15 fighters (if you are VIP and buy 5 extra slots) and train them in different styles, skills, and physical attributes. You can accept sponsorships, and fight contracts. You can buy them shirts and clothes, nutrition supplements. You can search different gyms and decide which one you want them to join and what skills to train there. There are 4 primary skills a fighter can have and train: Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, BJJ. There are also secondary skills: Punches, Kicks, Standing elbows, Knees, Clinchwork, Striking defense, Takedowns, Takedown defense, Ground n pound, Sub offense, Defensive grappling. Your fighter also has physical attributes: Agility, Flexibility, Speed, Strength, Conditioning, and Balance, as well as a number of hidden attributes such as Chin, Fast Learner ability, Natural KO power and Self Confidence.
Companies
A VIP user can create several different types of companies: A Fight Organization, a gym, a clothing shop, a betting shop, or a nutritional supplement company. These companies are entirely run by the manager that creates them, and supported by other players who purchase their services, with the exception of Fight Organizations, whose income relies on attendance to their events.
Fight Orgs
Fight organizations are the most complex companies to run but are also the most profitable. Before setting up an organization, the user has to make sure he or she is willing to spend some time building it and looking after it - they will have a lot of fighters under contract (high profile orgs may have several hundred) and those contracted fighters will rely on the owner to help build their careers through frequent and appropriate matchmaking.
New organizations will have a low hype rating, just like newly created fighters. This hype is built by putting on good shows and by promoting quality fighters and as with most things, the more money you have, the quicker you can move this process along.
Importantly though, even at this low hype level, an organization can make a profit by holding events. Putting on a sensible show with a good amount of advertising, prudent fighter pay and appropriate production values will result in coming out with a better bank balance than you started with.
Gyms
Running a gym is fairly simple and really only needs periodic maintenance, so can be a great way to earn money with minimal effort. Essentially all one needs to do is hire some coaches with desirable attributes, set them to an appropriate training regime and then make sure that the gym equipment does not get too worn out. Gyms with worn out equipment will have dissatisfied users. It causes their fighters' morale to drop, taking away effectiveness from every part of their gameplan.
Each gym has a number of variables which dictate it's quality.
Gym fees: Set the amount that each fighter who joins your gym will have to pay each week in fees. Gym fees cannot be changed on a Wednesday or a Thursday (UK time), to prevent last minute hikes. Gym fees can be set anywhere between $50 and $600 per week and are paid on Thursdays.
Upkeep budget: If the gym is dirty, fighters will lose morale when they train at your gym. This will have managers looking elsewhere for a well maintained gym, so make sure you set the upkeep budget at an appropriate level to maintain a clean gym. You need to spend $1 per fighter training session. So if you have 100 fighters at your gym, the most fighter training sessions per week that your fighters could have is 1200 (100 x 6 days x 2 sessions per day). A fighter training session is only counted if the fighter actually trains, so if they're set to no training for that session, it will not count towards this $1 per session total.
Equipment Condition: The better the equipment quality, the better the training fighters at your gym will receive. You can replace the equipment at any time for a one off fee of $3000.
Invite only: At the moment you cannot set a gym to invite only. It may get introduced in the future.
Capacity: Set the maximum number of fighters that can join at any one time.
Current # of fighters: The current number of fighters training at your gym.
Userbase
Around 35% of the game's userbase is from The United States of America, with Canada, United Kingdom, Finland, Brazil, Sweden, Australia, Germany, Norway and The Netherlands making up the rest of the top 10. Due to the high level of interaction required between users, the game is played in English only.
