Mitchell Olson (born March 17, 1977 in Vermillion, South Dakota) is an aspiring songwriter/musician known as a contestant on Survivor: The Australian Outback, the second season of the CBS reality TV series, Survivor, which aired in 2001. At seven feet tall, he is noted as the tallest contestant ever on the series.
Early life Olson and his two brothers grew up toiling in the corn and soybean fields of their parents' 220-acre farm in Vermillion, South Dakota. Developing an interest in creative writing and music at a young age, Olson could often be found writing stories, playing piano, and making movies, according to his mother, Joann.
Olson attended South Dakota State University, where he founded the Dancing Freaks troupe.
Prior to his appearance on Survivor, he appeared on The Price is Right, wearing a T-shirt showing host Bob Barker as one of the faces on Mount Rushmore.
During his season on Survivor, Olson was sorted into Ogakor Tribe. For the one "luxury item" that he was allowed to bring to the location, he brought a songbook. Ogakor lost the Immunity Challenge to Kucha Tribe. At Tribal Council, Olson's alliance partners Colby and Tina conspired against him, and Olson was tied 3 - 3 with teammate Keith Famie. Because Famie had no prior votes against him, and Mitchell had one from a prior Tribal Council, Olson was voted off. Olson said to his teammates, "You all pulled a fast one on me", but Olson admitted that he invited the vote, and was relieved at leaving, as he been weakened by hunger.
After Survivor Olson works as an office temp while he pursues his aspirations as a musician and songwriter. He currently lives in Union City, New Jersey.
