Mini Beer Pong is a party game designed to be played with two to four people. It is a twist on the popular game of Beer Pong. In Mini Beer Pong, players use catapults to shoot tethered balls into one ounce shot cups. The game was developed to allow people to enjoy playing beer pong without having to deal with the inconvenience of the size, hassle, and messiness of the game. It can be easily played in confined spaces like apartments, bars, and tailgates. History The idea of mini beer pong was conceived in a bar called Stub and Herb's by a group of University of Minnesota students in the Spring of 2011. This group of students formed the company Scienz Group and set off on a journey to bring their idea to life. The first prototypes and manufacturing runs of the game were all designed and created in a local maker space called the Nordeast Makers (a woodshop cooperative that Scienz helped establish). The first versions of the game were sold to friends and family and at local beer festivals. Development Mini Beer Pong was financed by the group's own members and loans from family and relatives. The game picked up a lot of popularity in the Fall of 2014 when Scienz released the deluxe version and partnered up with retailer Uncommon Goods. That holiday season mini beer pong sales increased drastically, and they set up their own manufacturing facilities in northeast Minneapolis. Right before the end of the year in 2015 Scienz released the classic version that is designed to be more travel friendly and retailer at a lower price. Game Play The game is played with twenty shot cups, two launchers, and two balls that are tethered to a center puck. The rules are like normal beer pong except the players are catapulting the balls towards the opponents cups instead of throwing. Each player starts with ten shot cups which they can fill with a beverage of their choice. They get two tries to land it in the opponents cup. If they make it the opponent has to drink that beverage and remove the cup. The players will alternate chances trying to make their opponents cups. The player who makes all the cups first is the winner. For more in depth rules go to the mini beer pong website. The rules are meant to be open ended because many people will have their own "house" rules associated with beer pong which they can transfer to mini beer pong. Release and Sales Scienz introduced their deluxe model of mini beer pong in the fall of 2014. The game board measured 22" long x 7" wide and contained their patented cup pocket design. They sold 2200 units of this model in 2014 and 3100 in 2015. Scienz introduced their classic model at the end of 2015. The classic model measures 22" long x 7" wide but also folds up and the game pieces store inside. Both versions of the game our manufactured in their home state of Minnesota. At the end of 2015 Scienz signed a licensing agreement with Buffalo Games giving them the right to manufacture and distribute mini beer pong tables. Scienz continues to manufacture and sell their deluxe and classic models. Media Mini Beer Pong has been featured in , Life & Style Weekly, Vogue, and the Weather Channel.
