Michel Lafrance

Michel Lafrance is a Canadian educator and coach. He is the current, 32nd Headmaster (Rector) of Bishop's College School, the fourth oldest English private school in Canada since 1836. He is also known for being the president of the Quebec Association of Independent School (QAIS) and serves on the board of directors and the accreditation board of the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools. His own foundation, upstartED started in 2018.
Early life and education
Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, he received his early education at Marianopolis College. He received his teaching degree at McGill University in English and P.E. in 1994 and a Master of Education in Leadership from Université de Sherbrooke.
Career
Initially trained to be a teacher and obtained his first teaching job at Hezliah High School in Montreal, he subsequently became its assistant to the head of school. He also acted as the Vice-headmaster of the St. George's School of Montreal. Soon he acted as the headmaster of West Island College from 2013 to 2020. From June 2020, following the retirement of the interim Headmaster William Mitchell (D.Ed, McGill), he was appointed by the BCS Board and elected by the BCS Prefect group to become the 32nd head of school of Bishop's College School. By virtue of his office, he automatically became a member of the BCS School Board and Bishop's College School Foundation.
Leadership roles
He has been regarded as a leader in Quebec education and a frequent guest speaker of the McGill University Faculty of Education. He is also the current Executive Director and President of the Association des écoles privées du Québec (QAIS) since 2014 and Canadian Accredited Independent Schools. Voluntarily, he serves on the Quebec regional board of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award<ref name="auto"/>
