Michael Pliuskaitis is a swimming coach currently based in Loudoun County, Virginia. He was the Canadian Coach of the Year in 1994 and was a swim coach for the Canadian National Swim Team between 1993 and 1996. He received the Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Award for swimming in 1992. Notable athletes he has coached include Olympians Stephen Clarke and Rob Brakins, and U.S. Olympian Matt McLean. After coaching at the Cobra Swim Club in Canada, Pliuskaitis coached under Olympic swimming coach Paul Bergen with the Virginia-based swimming club team Sunset. With Bergen’s departure from Sunset, Pliuskaitis founded Snowbird Aquatics. On August 6, 2012, Pliuskaitis was added to USA Swimming’s permanently suspended list. Pliuskaitis was found guilty of violating four codes pertaining to sexual misconduct: sections 304.3.5, 304.3.7, 304.3.4, and 304.3.8. After Pliuskaitis lost his appeal, his ban became public the week of February 16, 2013. Pliuskaitis had been attempting to regain control of Snow Swimming during the prior year. As of May 2012, Pliuskaitis runs the private swim school SwimTec, LLC and conducts classes at Claude Moore Recreation Center in Loudoun County, Virginia. He has now moved to Utah.
