Mercury Messenger

Mercury Messenger or simply "MM" (formerly called dMSN) is a Windows Live Messenger network Instant Messaging client developed in Java. It supports almost all of the features in Windows Live Messenger, bringing feature parity to Mac OS X and Linux; although it's currently distributed as freeware, Mercury is not Free Software.

Advantage/drawback
Mercury is a Java application which can be easily ported to various operating systems (Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, FreeBSD). However, in some situations it will require a larger amount of CPU power and memory for animated emoticons and resizing of "large" display pictures than the native WLM.
