MediaStream Records

MediaStream Records is a record label owned by MediaStream ehf. and founded by Steinar Jonsson (current presedent of MediaStream ehf.) and his team.

MediaStream Records - The story of the label
The label was established in Summer 2006 by Steinar Jonsson who back then was the drummer in Capybara. When Capybara split up the label took a new direction and started promoting hip-hop and rap. In early June 2007 a company called MediaStream Agency was then formed with the purpose to promote Dabbi T, Hugrof and more. In August 2007 a record label called MediaStream Music was established and a month later a CD was released (Dabbi T - Óheflað Málfar). Together MediaStream Agency and MediaStream Music worked as one to plan concerts, promote albums and plan further releases. In April 2008 those 2 companys merged in to one company called MediaStream Records. Due to the company changes, the decition was made that this label would have worldwide distribution and the final step was then taken 20.June 2008 when the label opened its official web-site and myspace.

Studio 112 (2006-2007)
In late 2006 the company owned a studio called Studio 112 located in Reykjavik, Iceland. The studio was used for urban recordings and movie soundtrack mixes. The studio was officially closed in late May 2007.

MediaStream Records genres
Originally the label was only Hip-hop/Rap but in April 2008 the CEO (Mike Johnson) stated that the label would open the doors for new genres such as Pop, Electro, Rave, Europop, Bubblegum Pop, Pop-Rock, Techno, Trance, Dance and House but lose some hip-hop artists and finally go worldwide.

MediaStream Records (Worldwide)
MediaStream Records is one of few labels that have they're own distribution department. The label meets the new technology demands with internet distribution as the label's primary worldwide distribution and CD's as an additional platform. The MediaStream CD distribution reaches United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, United Kingdom, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Ireland. (See for more info)

**Mike Johnson is currently General Manager of MediaStream Records. Mike is a well known manager in the Icelandic hip-hop industry. Before MediaStream Records was founded, Mike was the main promoter for mainstream hip-hop in Iceland. He also promoted Indie rock bands in 2006-2007. Mike is titled as the CEO of MediaStream Records but is in fact more than that. He also works as a FOH Engineer, A&R, Tour Manager and the head of MediaStream Agency witch is the promotional part of MediaStream ehf.
