He currently lives in London, England where he is constantly touring, and frequently visits the United States to work on his music. Maxwell D is a spokesperson for Kidscount, who raise awareness about the gun and knife culture in today’s society, and recently spoke at a seminar with David Cameron. It was the emergence of the Drum and Bass scene that really inspired Maxwell D to be a musician. Maxwell D began to take his craft more seriously and started performing at all the local clubs and house parties. He began to make a name for himself within his community and was given a slot on the Pirate radio station, Rinse FM. In 1999 Relentless Records heard Maxwell D’s music and immediately signed him to their label. His debut single “Serious” received widespread recognition among the UK dance scene and reached the national UK charts. When asked about why he felt compelled to support Obama, Maxwell D said: “The reason that I felt to get involved with the Obama campaign is because for me, what happens in America affects the rest of the world. Not only because of the colour of his skin, it’s about what the guy is actually saying. He is trying to make a change in a lot of things. I’ve taken more of an interest in politics of late and I get to understand that if he is actually able to deliver on what he is saying, then we could be really working towards world peace. As I said on the track I might not be a black faced American but this election affects everyone.”
