Matthew Marr is a former Scottish Labour Party spin doctor. Having taken the role of spokesman for Party leader Wendy Alexander only weeks before, he resigned on 17 November 2007 after his behaviour at the Scottish Politician of the Year Awards two nights previously was revealed by most Scottish newspapers, including the Sunday Herald who carried it as their front page lead. Allegations include the branding of First Minister Alex Salmond a "c**t", being abusive to MSPs and hotel staff and "muttering about the middle classes". None of these were denied and he offered his resignation to Ms Alexander who accepted it. Previous to this role, he was President of Dundee University Students Association from 2001 to 2002, was a press officer within the Labour-led Scottish Executive, worked for SCIAF and was special advisor to Glasgow City Council leader Steven Purcell. Marr now works as an assistant to Tommy McAvoy MP, the member for Rutherglen and Hamilton West.
