Material Success is a 2012 Canadian documentary film about the behind-the-scenes drama that follows misadventures of the eccentric fashion designer Bruno Ierullo as he readies for his first runway show, after a personal tragedy inspires him to risk his life savings on a career change into the art. The film is directed by Jesse Mann and produced by Marc Swenker, Aaron Yeger, and Paul Ierullo, with cinematography by Stephen Chandler Whitehead. It was released in the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom in September 2015 after being screened at several film festivals including Canadian Film Festival, Victoria Film Festival, St. Louis International Film Festival, Poznan Art & Fashion Festival and Miami Fashion Film Festival. The movie is distributed internationally by Filmbuff. Production In production predominantly for the months of August and September 2009, the filmmakers shot over 200 hours of footage following Ierullo both at home and in studio. Other locations featured are textile and leathersmith shops, and a button factory. Soundtrack The original score was composed for the film by Mark Holmes of Platinum Blonde, who has a cameo feature in the film, and was inspired by his appreciation for Hammond organ music popular in mid-50's to early 70's jazz. Awards The film is winner of the Audience Choice Award for Best Film at the Canadian Film Festival and winner of Best Documentary Film at the Toronto Independent Film Festival in 2012.
