Bangladeshi television drama

Bangladeshi television drama () has grown radically since the 1990s. Most dramas reflect Bengali culture and society of Bangladesh.
Bangladeshi series are mostly produced in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The first television channel of Bangladesh named Bangladesh Television produced many best television dramas. After 2000s many television channel came and they also produced some good quality drama series. The language of Bangladeshi television drama is Bangla.
History
The first television drama was "Ektala Dotala", written by Munier Choudhury, was aired in 1965. At first, all television drama was broadcast by Bangladesh Television because there was only one television channel. The television dramas were broadcast live by BTV. Then after technology of broadcasting recorded video appeared in Bangladesh, BTV started to broadcast recorded television dramas.
There are many famous and popular drama series produced by BTV. One of them is drama series "Bohubrihi". It was on of the best comedy drama of that time. "Eishob Din Ratri" was the best family drama of the decade. It is told that this drama was so popular that the busy streets of Dhaka used to get empty during its showtime. Another drama series was "Kothao Keo Nei". In this drama series the main character named Baker bhai got death penalty in high court. The viewers couldn’t' accept the death of Baker bhai so they brought a rally in street. "Shonshoptok" is another famous drama series in the history of Bangladeshi television drama. It showed people how time and people changed but society remains unchanged. BTV also produced many more television series named Matir Kole, Jonaki Jole, Bhangoner Shobdo Shuni, Oyomoy, Rupnogor etc.
After 1997 government gave permission to forming television channel to private organisations, more television dramas were produced. At the time of private satellite television channel Ekushey Television got popularity in Bangladesh. Ekushey TV produced many famous television dramas that Bangladesh Television became insignificant that time.
Strike
There are no fixed time frame for television drama in Bangladesh. At first a television drama was 60 minutes long. Nowadays each episode of television dramas varies 30-45 minutes. There are longer drama named telefilm which is 90 to 120 minutes long.
