Mary Kremer is the Republican candidate running for Oregon State Senate in the 19th Senate District. Her opponent is Richard Devlin of the Democratic party. Personal Life Twenty years ago, Mary was an investment banker in Chicago, where she specialized in pensions, municipal bonds and fixed income investments as a Vice President at Salomon Brothers, Inc. During this time, many of her clients were state and local governments. When she and her husband Rob became pregnant with their second child, they decided to change their lifestyle and move back to Oregon. For the last twenty years, Mary has been raising her two children, volunteering in the schools, serving on the boards of local charities, teaching high school students in North East Portland, feeding homeless teenagers and attending her childrens sporting events and arts performances. Political Background In 2009, Mary decided to get involved in the legislative process after she was asked to coordinate the Parents Association of Oregon’s largest public virtual school. This responsibility put her in the middle of the most controversial issue in the 2009 legislative session. Mary worked tirelessly to establish open and honest communications between the parents of the school and the Democratic majority. However, she quickly learned how Oregon’s one-party legislature could undermine the will of the people without any true check and balance. This experience motivated her to get even more involved.
