Mary Beth Ellis

Mary Beth Ellis (January 15, 1977) is an American humorist writer and author of Drink to the Lasses, a memoir of her undergraduate years at a small women's college. Her work has appeared in Random House's Twentysomething Essays by Twentysomething Writers, on msnbc.com, in Dish Pronto's "The Side Dish," and in several anthologies and literary magazines. She blogs at BlondeChampagne.com. The subjects of her writing range may from thoroughbred horse racing to NASA, but her writing is best known for its personal, observational essays marked with transitions from surprising insight to sharp humor.
A graduate of of Notre Dame, where she was the first SMC student invited to read at the University of Notre Dame's Literary Festival, Ellis holds an MFA in creative nonfiction writing from Bennington College. Having fielded several invitations as a writer-in-residence with several programs, including the National Parks Service, Ellis is currently working on her second book, a set of essays inspired by her experiences of shadowing 2011's The Ohio State University Marching Band.
