Mary Althaus

Mary E. Althaus, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A. in 1947, was the host of the first season of Let's Learn Japanese, a 26-lesson television course for people who wanted to learn about the Japanese language.
On the program, she lectured on each episode's material, ranging from grammar structure to the pronunciation of Hiragana characters. She would sometimes participate in skits with Mine-San, Kaihou-San & Sugihara-San in order for viewers to get an understanding of the day's material.
She has contributed to several publications including "The Attic Letters: Ume Tsuda's Correspondence to Her American Mother," (Nov. 1991), "Progressive Japanese-English Dictionary," & "Lighthouse Japanese-English Dictionary," (2002) & "One World English Writing." (2003)
Althaus was born to parents Russell P. & Rachel Althaus. She attended Bethel-Tate High School in Bethel, Ohio, from 1961-1965. She is currently a professor at Tsuda College's Department of English, where she specializes in the use of documentaries and videos to assist students in building their English language skills. She currently resides in Tokyo, Japan.
