Marudha Nayagam is a forthcoming Indian Tamil language film directed by and starring Kamal Haasan. The movie is about the life of Muhammed Yusuf Khan (1725-1764). The music director is Ilaiyaraaja. The movie was slated for 1998 but shooting has been stopped and no progress has been made.
The project has been encountering problems both on the creative and operational side. Finding finances for the period drama, for which Kamal had projected a budget of about Rs. 80 crores, has been the major stumbling block. Meanwhile, Kamal has completed several other projects and has been making constant efforts to revive the film. A group of people have been attempting to collect money from the public, ostensibly for making the film. An agitated Kamal has given a statement that he has not asked anyone to do such a thing, and that any request is likely to be a scam.
