Martin Popplewell is an English journalist and broadcaster. Early life and education Popplewell was born in and attended school in Cambridge. He was educated at University College London, from which he obtained a degree in zoology. At 18, Popplewell spent several months living on the uninhabited island of Patongros, in the Federated States of Micronesia, having been inspired to do so by watching the film The Blue Lagoon. Journalism career Popplewell began his career as a journalist on the . Popplewell has presented the news on Five, BBC News and Sky News. He has reported for ITN and worked as a political reporter for the BBC's On the Record. In 2019, Popplewell appeared on BBC Radio 4's Great Lives, discussing Robinson Crusoe.
