Marsha Music

Marsha Music (Marsha Battle Philpot) is a music and cultural historian, writer, and speaker specializing in narratives on the city of Detroit.
Early life and education
Born in Detroit, grew up in Highland Park, and now lives in Lafayette Park, MI. She is the daughter of legendary music producer and record store owner Joe Von Battle. She is married to artist David Philpot.
She studied Latin, classical music, and literature. Was witness to 1960's Detroit Motown as well as the British Invasion, and her musical interests vary widely from jazz, blues, soul, R&B, and gospel to album rock.
Career
Contributor to Heaven was Detroit: From Jazz to Hip-Hop and Beyond
Contributor to the HBO documentary A City on Fire about the World Series winning 1968 Detroit Tigers.
Recipient of an Arts Challenge grant from The Knight Foundation for the creation of "Salon De'troit"
Recipient of Kresge Literary Fellowship in 2012.
