Professional background
Owner/Director of Enterprise Solutions (MN), a consultancy specializing in improving access, inclusion and diversity in enterprise for public and 3rd sector organizations; Founder of WomEnterprise campaign group to reduce the gender gap in enterprise.
Prior to founding Enterprise Solutions in Jan 2010, Marla was Director of the Women’s Enterprise Centre of Expertise having previously been the Deputy Director at the Women’s Business Development Agency (2001-2008).
The Women’s Enterprise Centre of Expertise (WECOE) was the first ‘arms length’ policy innovation undertaken by a UK Regional Development Agency, and ended in Dec 2009.
Enterprise Solutions (MN) were wholly responsible for the delivery of Advantage West Midlands (the Regional Development Agency) “Strategic Women’s Enterprise Project”, a legacy initiative building upon the work and findings of WECOE; continuing to influence, lobby and advocate for the women’s enterprise agenda in the region.
Recent projects
Marla’s specialist areas of expertise lie in influencing policy, lobbying and advocating for the women’s enterprise agenda; design & development of innovative Women’s Enterprise programmes aimed at encouraging enterprising skills and capabilities amongst young girls using ‘gaming to learn’ innovations, economic empowerment initiatives for women from BAME and refugee communities, and detailed impact assessment and measurement of economic development/regeneration interventions aimed at under-represented groups in Enterprise.
Author and co-author of practitioner based Women’s Enterprise papers, she regularly consults and shares best practice regarding the UK Women’s Enterprise agenda, raising awareness and increasing knowledge about this sector on an international basis.
