Mark Cayer is an American politician and former police officer who has served as mayor of Lewiston, Maine since January 6, 2020. Cayer ran as a non-partisan but was mainly Demoractic Party-backed and is a registered Democrat. In the 2019 mayoral election, he beat two other candidates and was elected with 54.6% of the vote. He served as Lewiston School Committee chairman before becoming mayor. 2014 Maine House of Representatives run Cayer ran for district 61 of the Maine House of Representatives in 2014 for the Lewiston's Independent Voice party. He lost to Democrat Heidi Brooks in the general election with 42% to Brooks's 50%. 2019 Lewiston mayoral run Cayer was a candidate in the 2019 Lewiston, Maine mayoral election. He defeated Tim Lajoie, also non-partisan, with 3,237 votes to Lajoie's 2,521.
