The Rev. Dr. Margaret McNaughton is a homeless and working poor advocate, as well as one of the leading voices in Biblical reflection in spanish language countries, and is currently the Associate Dean for Community Life, Ethnic Ministries and Admissions at Virginia Theological Seminary Dr. McNaughton completed her Doctor of Ministry at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. Previously, her education included post graduate study in Pastoral Counseling at Andover-Newton Theological School in Massachusetts, an M.Div. degree from Virginia Theological Seminary and a B.S. in Animal Husbandry from Michigan State University. Dr. McNaughton was ordained an Episcopal Priest in 1982. Before joining the faculty in 1995, Dr. McNaughton served in parish ministry for twelve years in Massachusetts and Washington, DC. She has been a spiritual director for eighteen years and was trained by the brothers at the Society of St John the Evangelist. Recently, Dr. McNaughton was awarded two grants related to developing ethnic ministries at VTS. The first launched the racial and ethnic diversity initiative at VTS that continues to include a broad range of programs. The second established a partnership between VTS and the Episcopal seminaries in Haiti and the Dominican Republic providing English language training for seminarians in preparation for entering the MTS program at VTS. The program makes accessible the theological literature written in English for future teachers of theology. Dr. McNaughton runs a weekly program with the homeless and working poor at Epiphany Church in D. C. that integrates art and Biblical reflection. She chairs a committee, which includes Latino/Latina missioners, to develop a curriculum in leadership training for Spanish speaking congregations. She is a member of Spiritual Directors International and serves on the Student Personnel Administrators Network conference planning committee for the Association of Theological Schools.
