Manybooks.net is a free digital library that takes e-books from Project Gutenberg, the Internet Archive, and other free sources and converts them to file formats suitable for e-readers, such as PDF or ePub. E-Books are created on-demand and then cached via Amazon S3. The service was founded and designed by Matthew McClintock, and launched in 2004. The site has a bookstore-like format organized by genre and Library of Congress Classification and offers descriptions and excerpts of most books, as well as links to author information and reader reviews. All downloads are free of charge. Users may register to create public or private "bookshelves," lists of books on the site, with RSS feeds, for later reference. However, downloads do not require registering or subscribing. While most of the books are public domain works, a "post-1930s" category includes recent works donated by authors such as Cory Doctorow.
