Malaka Dewapriya

Malaka Dewapriya engage in film making, to be involved in the Theatre field since1991 and to become a composite artiste. In 1998 he made his way, the maiden being Sammanaru. (Anxiety ) man and his apprehension imagination . it was best film at national NISCO video 1998.. Penetrate made in 2001,. Which depicts the ever-familiar concept of was a university romance which reflected on Sri Lankan youth. This was chosen for the ‘Ibda Awards’, in Iran.
he perceive the world through a critical lens, and want to intervene in what happens around us through an exploration of Socio-psychological make up of our society. he has been engaged in a variety of fields in the arts, ranging from film, photography, theater, and radio plays and the print media and have tried to blend a variety of styles in his creative production. As a film maker he has endeavored to make six short films .

Malaka, who has carried this ardour from his early school years, has participated in theatre at many levels while still in child hood.This artiste has worked under experienced directors and has contributed to a large number of major productions. Malaka remembers one of his most cherished moments as his performance and contributions.

Malaka has given his priceless contribution to the state and youth drama festivals since 1991.The experience and talent he gained took him on to direct a translation of a massive play like One for the Road. (Harold Pinter’s) to youth drama festival and state drama festival awarded 2001.he started his works writing and directing

Malaka is also a journalist, whose writings to the print media range from academic to general features.He has also engaged himself in radio drama at the SLBC as a radio scriptwriter and an actor accepted high marks from audition .
During last Twelve years I have written more than fifty plays. Some Scripts were awarded as Best script at Inter school festivals, Inter University festivals, All Island festivals & Youth drama festival and Represented, Ibdaa media Awards-2002 and BBC International Play Writes Competition-2003, 2005, 2007.





He has published Uge Hisa Ivarai ( Off with His Head ) -2006. under Sponsored by National Library Srilanka Book Developing Fund.

Reading for an BA degree in the Faculty of Arts Malaka, made all his film with a DV Cam coder which. Speaking on the lack of opportunities for the youngsters to peruse in filmmaking Malaka said, this is an art that goes with technology and it is important to know the technical side in addition to the talent. “But unfortunately compared to other countries it has become hardly cared form of art as there is no place to learn it”, Malaka said describing the practical difficulties in learning filmmaking in Sri Lanka

He is strongly canvassing support to create a student film culture and taking this form of art to the younger generation. Having visited Israel with his earlier film he said, “in those countries the talent of youngsters is highly appreciated. Unlike our countries the new talent is welcomed and the adult makes room for the youngsters. This happens in every sphere except in intellectual areas”.
