Makhachkala Il-76 collision occurred on January 15, 2009 near 18:00 UTC, when two Ilyushin Il-76 military transport aircraft collided in Uytash Airport serving the city of Makhachkala in Dagestan, Russia. Both planes transported troops. One of them was going in for landing with 31 soldiers on board, while the other one, having unloaded all the troops, was taxiing empty for take-off. Due to sudden blast of wind, the landing Il-76 struck the taxiing Il-76's cockpit with its wing. The airplanes caught fire. The airport was closed until the following morning. Four crew members have been killed in the taxiing Il-76, and one more is reported missing.
