Mahabharatha - Randamoozham is the upcoming two part Malayalam-language and multilingual epic film directed by V. A. Shrikumar Menon and produced by B R Shetty based on the novel Randamoozham by M.T. Vasudevan Nair.The first part of the film is expected to release in 2020.The film is the most expensive Indian film ever made and also the most expensive non-English language film .The film will be released as Randamoozham in Malayalam and as Mahabharata based on M.T. Vasudevan Nair's Randamoozham in rest of the languages. Plot The story is the reinterpretation of the Mahabharata from the perspective of Bhima , the second prince of Pandavas. Cast * Mohanlal as Bhima * Akkineni Nagarjuna as Karna Background Towards the end of 2016, director Hariharan announced his plan to adapt Randamoozham to screen, scripted by M. T. Vasudevan Nair himself and chose Mohanlal to portray the central character Bhima. The team found it difficult to limit it to a single film and decided to make it two-part. Due to financing problems during the time, this plan of action was called off.. By mid January 2017, Mohanlal revealed through a television interview that M. T. Vasudevan Nair has submitted the final draft of the script to him, and the project would go on floor by 2020. Against previous notion of being a single film, the actor stated that it will be made into a two-part movie. On April 17, 2017, lead actor Mohanlal confirmed through his Facebook page about his role as Bhima, and that the film will be directed by renowned Ad-Filmmaker V. A. Shrikumar Menon.. He also announced that industrialist B. R. Shetty would be the producer of the film. On May 2017, the telugu actor Akkineni Nagarjuna revealed in an interaction with the media that he was approached by the writer M. T Vasudevan Nair two years back, asked him to play role of Karna in the film. He was also quoted as saying that he was aware of the director's effort for the film for the past four years and recently he was again asked for his dates.. In the media On April 19 2017, SS Rajamouli scrapped his plans to create his own version of a movie based on Mahabharata after the Mohanlal confirmed the news about Randamoozham.. Kamaal R Khan shared a series of infuriating tweets about the actor which led to widespread criticism. Other Indian actors lashed out against Kamaal R Khan which coerced him to take down his Facebook post, but not the tweets. The very next day, the movie made it to s non-definitive List of most expensive non-English-language films, and is ranked in the first position. Media outlets such as CNN and The Guardian featured the news through their online edition.
