Madu Ragothaman

Madusudhanan Ragothaman (born April 26, 1980, Srirangapattinam) is a former Tamil Nadu Under-16 cricketer. He played district cricket for South Aroct, Tamil Nadu , University of Madras,mainly as a right-handed batsman but also as an occasional left arm spinner.
In 1993, as a 13 year old, playing his debut game in his home city of Chennai against Mumbai, he hit a terrific 121 of 136 balls including 24 boundaries giving Tamil Nadu victory against Goa. Tamil Nadu had seen a budding Krishnamachari Srikkanth, at a time when Tamil Nadu was not producing any cricketers.
This shot him into the limelight, catching the selectors' eye. The same year he was selected for Tamil Nadu Under-15 team. He made 124 on the 5th day playing against Orissa in the crucial semi-finals helping Tamil Nadu to win the game by 3 wickets.
On the 5th day, during the dinner break, he hit a Orissa player with a steel chair. TNCA disqualified him from taking part in the state tournament for the next 2 years. Tamil Nadu lost the finals against Delhi, with Gautam Gambhir making 154 to take Delhi to victory. After this event the selectors ignored him permanently.
The TNCA chairman Srinivasan recollects "He was a great talent, had great technique and batting intelligence, aggressive as Srikkanth and patient as Sunil Gavaskar. TNCA will exercise a 2 year ban on Madhu, no matter how talented he is." This ended his cricketing ambitions for ever.
He played for SRM engineering college and had a very successful university cricket career. He scored three centuries in 1998, including 213 playing for University of Chennai against University of Punjab. Tamil Nadu named him in the list of 22 for the Ranji Trophy in 1998-99, but he was overseen by Sadagoppan Ramesh who went on to play for India.
