Machine Big Data

Machine Big Data is ...
Machine big data (MBD) describes the information that is processed and output as a function of a digital machine or device operation. IT users and administrators define the parameters and scheduled processing for these systems, and the resulting output becomes a record of events and state changes. These records may be cached temporarily or stored (archived) for a specified length of time; often as a matter of policy or compliance to applicable regulations. It should be noted that machine big data is not necessarily intelligible to humans and may have dependencies on applications or processes to understand it in context. Currently there are few uniform standards defining the files or formats of machine big data across applications, machines and devices.
Applications for Machine Big Data
Digital applications, devices, and machines can be configured to log processes and events that occur in the course of their operation. These logs may contain many data points in any number of different formats which serve as an immutable record of operation. Therefore, this data may be used in forensics, troubleshooting, or in a legal context. While the logs themselves may be accessible or viewable in various applications, machine big data can be exported in immutable formats, such as Portable Data Format (PDF) in order to show a seamless chain of custody for use in the U.S. court systems .
Machine Big Data Trends
In 2009, Gartner predicted that data volumes would grow by 650% over the next five years. Most of the increase was expected to be from machine big data.
