M61 Gas Mask

The Gas Mask also is referred to as the M-61 or M/61. It is a Finnish gas mask with three variants. The first was based on the United States Armed Forces' M9 Gas Mask and was virtually identical. The second was similar, but with a different exhalation valve. The third had an updated speech diaphragm and a new, unique exhalation valve. The M/61 Gas Mask was succeeded by the M95 Gas Mask
The M61 Gas Mask was made during the late 80's and early 90's and is one of the most common gas masks on the market today, which can be purchased from anywhere between five and thirty United States Dollars. Along with the M17 and it's other versions, the M61 can be purchased from eBay and military surplus websites.
The M61 gas mask has an exhalation chamber on the bottom of the chin and a vocal box on the front of the chin. The filter is on the left side of the mask (when you have it on) allowing for a better -if not proper- cheek weld when using shoulder mounted weapons versus older masks with a front mounted filter cartridge. The air you breathe comes in just under the eyes, which is a unique and effective defogging system. When you exhale, the air exits through the exhalation chamber and out just below the eyes as well, also an effective way of defogging.
