M.A.D Playhouse

M.A.D Playhouse Theater is a South Asian Theater production company founded in 2013. M.A.D stands for Making a Difference. The purpose of forming M.A.D playhouse was to blend art across cultures and provide an unique platform for South Asian Playwrights. M.A.D has also provided a platform to young talents across the globe to perform in their two consecutive productions within 1 year from the formation of the company.
M.A.D Playhouse promotes South Asian Playwrights and work of art in the Tri-State Area and opportunities to the young and talented individuals.
Early History
During the acting classes at Stella Adler Studio of Acting two young men came with an idea of a South Asian Playhouse in the city of New York. They started the discussions of forming a company formally and start living their dream. They were joined by another enthusiast in the early 2013 to create a space for South Asian Playwrights in the heart of the New York City.
Founding and Early Productions
M.A.D Playhouse Theater was founded in early 2013, "M.A.D" being Making A Difference through theater. M.A.D's first Off-Broadway production was Sakharam Binder by Vijay Tendulkar. The first Production of Sakharam Binder created a lot of wave especially with the innovative idea of the production. The play was performed in National Comedy Theatre, NYC on June 30th, July 7th and July 14th, 2013. The play had cast from Argentina, Brazil, Japan, India truly living up to the spirit that M.A.D promised to deliver, i.e. blending art across cultures. The production has received 80% positive reviews based on a survey posted by M.A.D playhouse.
M.A.D Playhouse Theater created a huge buzz with their second production of Half-Hearted by Mohan Rakesh. The play had sold out runs for 4 days in the Cherry Lane Theatre during December 19th - 22nd, 2013. The news was covered in The Indian Panorama as well as in Broadwayworld, apart from several other media coverages.
