Luxury Stranger is an English post-punk band formed in 2008, in Nottingham. The band's line-up is Simon York (guitar/vocals/other instruments), Chris Ruscoe (bass guitar/other instruments) and Paul Sycamore (drums/percussion). The band's sound is generally a mix of bass throb and rhythmic, harmonised guitar, with a snare heavy mix, drawing comparisons to post-punk bands such as Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Chameleons. In December 2008, the band were signed to the German label, Major Digital, (an offshoot of Major Records) alongside other established artists as Ladytron, IAMX, Nitzer Ebb and Mesh. Their debut album Desolation was released on 13 December 2008. Desolation received critical acclaim from post-punk and gothic writer Mick Mercer in his online magazine, The Mick. In December 2009, Luxury Stranger supported German post-punk band Die Art, at The Groovestation, Dresden. In March 2010, they supported ex-The Cure members Lol Tolhurst and Michael Dempsey's new project Levinhurst, in Holland and Germany. In May 2010, the band performed at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen festival, in Leipzig, on the same bill as Chameleonsvox (featuring former members of The Chameleons), Pink Turns Blue and Gene Loves Jezebel. In July 2010, Lauren Laverne included them in her BBC 6 Music blog, as part of a revival of "interesting new goth bands", along with the London-based outfit, O.Children.
