Lothian Demain Nicholson (23) married 24-year-old Frances Laura Squire (b. 16 Jan 1858, Camden Town) on 4 July 1882 in Staines, Middlesex. She was the second daughter of William Squire of Feltham Hill. The marriage was officiated by the Reverend Henry Demain MA, Oxon.
At the age of 26, he was accepted into the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, a Livery Company in the City of London. Nicholson took his Freedom of the City of London on 13 November 1879. He was twice Prime Warden in 1921-22 and 1925-26. In 1904, Mr Nicholson was the chairman of the London Distillers’ Association and a well-known expert in distilling. Mr Nicholson, a millionaire at the age of 53, took early retirement in 1911 and bought The Manor House , Five Ashes, Mayfield, East Sussex, and changed its name back to Skippers Hill . He was an alpinist and a philanthopist.
