Lost: Midnight Mist

Lost: Midnight Mist is a 2008 novel by Horror Romance and Dark Fantasy author Steven M. Mellerson. It is the introduction in the Lost Soul series that follows the character Sita Troy, Reformed Demon.

Plot Introduction



Sita Troy is an explorer who makes her home in The Big Apple. She was enjoying fame and noteriety until she received a letter from her estranged brother. After an uncomfortable meeting she agrees to search for a treasure that her brother discovered among their late father’s belongings. After gathering a team which includes not only her brother but her brand new fiancee as well. The mission doesn’t go at all as planned and they encounter something they least expected in the ruins deep in the jungle of the Phillipine Islands. A Jack-in-Irons named The Guardian welcomes them with open arms. There were no survivors. Not long after she awakens from the dead does Sita realized that the once vanilla world that she lived in isn’t so safe and "normal" and that she, herself, is a cold-blooded killer.

Sita Troy - Sita was an explorer -contrary and sarcastic- she was the envy of her contemporaries until her untimely death and resurrection as the infamous demon that feeds on lust and life force the Succubus.

Vincent - An ancient vampire that is lord of the preternatural community of The Greater New York area. In ages past he was both consort and enemy of the demon, Morrigan, that now inhabits the soul of Sita.

Morrigan - A peasant concubine of the old world whose life took a tragic turn and became the embodiment of lust and desire, one of the most powerful and feared demons of the ancienct world the Succubus.

David - Sita’s doomed lover whose death she was responsible for, now one of Heavens holy messengers he guides Sita through this new world of preternatural creatures and monsters. His goal is to keep her on the path of redemption so that her soul will be safe.

Angel - A devotee of Vincent's that develops an unrelenting resentment and rage toward Sita, and hunt's her throughout her journey

Creatures Introduced:


Jack-in-Irons - a giant of lore who haunts lonely roads. He is covered with chains and wears the heads of his victims. He wields a large, spiked club or swords. He was often enslaved by ancients and used as a temple guard.

Vampire - a mythological undead creature that feeds on blood, generally stronger, faster and more durable than average humans, the older ones are often in possession of fantastic powers, and many are capable of mental seduction.

Succubus - a demon who takes the form of a beautiful woman to seduce men, especially those pure of heart, in dreams to have sexual intercourse, according the medieval European legend, they feed on the life essence usually through sexual intercourse but have been known to do so through blood and mere touch as well.

Werewolf - also known as lycanthropes, are mythological humans with the ability to shapeshift into wolves or wolf-like creatures, either purposely, being bitten by another werewolf or after being placed under a curse.

Faeries - A fairy (also fay, fey, fae, faerie; collectively, wee folk, good folk, people of peace, fair folk, and other euphemisms) is a type of mythological being or legendary creature, a form of spirit, often described as metaphysical, supernatural or preternatural.

Troll - a fearsome member of a warrior race of creatures often associated with the fae they have supernatural powers and are beings of both body and spirit, they are also known to wield weapons of legend.

Wyld Hunt - a folk myth prevalent in former times across Northern, Western and Central Europe. The fundamental premise in all instances is the same: a phantasmal group of huntsmen with the accountruments of hunting, horses, hounds, etc., in mad pursuit across the skies or along the ground, or just above it. It is often a way to explain thunderstorm. The hunters may be the dead, or the fairies (often in folklore connected with the dead). The hunter may be an unidentified lost soul, a deity or spirit of either gender, or may be a historical or legendary figure.
